Economic Development Committee

Bob Roberts & Todd Snitchler head up this committee

This role of this committee is to promote cooperation between all businesses and civic organizations and governmental entities in Lake Township; and develop an action plan for economic development that will assist in attracting business to locate in Lake Township and stay.

The Committee is in the initial stages of working with the Rotary and Canton League of Women Voters to host a Candidate night in October, 2004.  The purpose of the Candidate Night is to allow the candidates to speak to local voters and answer questions posed to them by the audience.  The League of Women Voters has some requirements that need to be discussed further before proceeding.  The proposed dates are October 12 at 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. (with an alternate date of October 19 at 7 p.m.).  Location for the event has not been determined, but if the Lake High School auditorium were available (at no charge) that venue has been proposed as an excellent location.

Discussion and resolution as to which candidates will be invited (local, township, county, state, federal) must be addressed to ensure the meeting is a manageable length.  From the Chamber perspective, we have an interest in the candidates’ positions on business/commerce/tax issues but there will undoubtedly be other issues to address as well.  We need to work to assist in the development of questions to prevent too much overlap and address the most hotly contested issues for local voters.

Involvement of the local high school students (i.e. new voters) is encouraged, and the committee is interested in ideas on how to generate student interest and involvement.
